Move 4 Human Rights is an MDT* project in collaboration between human rights organizations and educational institutions based in The Netherlands. This project offers young people the opportunity to bridge theory and practice by engaging in critical issues surrounding human rights, social justice, and inclusivity. Through specialized skill training sessions, participants will have the chance to:

  • Conduct action research on human rights issues they feel passionate about
  • Contribute ideas on how to improve human rights-based policy in the Netherlands
  • Advocate for gender equality and drive meaningful change

Throughout these trajectories, students will develop essential skills in critical thinking, data analysis, intercultural communication, and more, while actively contributing to building an inclusive society!

The organizations involved include Human Security Collective, Justice & Peace Netherlands, Stichting Our Bodies Our Voice, and Human Rights in the Picture. Partner educational institutions include The Hague University of Applied Sciences, University of Twente, and Erasmus University College.

*MDT (Maatschappelijke Diensttijd) is a voluntary social service program initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science. At HSC, we are proud to be one of the implementing organizations of MDT. MDT offers young people between the ages of 12 and 30 a unique opportunity to volunteer for a minimum of 80 hours during a maximum period of 6 months and make a positive impact in their communities. Through MDT, participants have the chance to explore their talents, connect with others, and contribute to meaningful causes.

Frequently asked questions

HSC is a key implementing partner and the lead organization within Move 4 Human Rights. With our expertise in working with young people to address complex social issues, we lead the Action Research trajectory. Here, participants conduct practical studies on human rights and human security matters in The Netherlands. Through this trajectory, we empower young people to engage directly with real-world challenges, fostering a deeper understanding of human rights issues and inspiring the creation of innovative solutions to address them.

In an HSC trajectory, participants engage in various activities aimed at promoting human rights. These include speed dating with human rights organizations, mind mapping local issues, and designing action research projects. Under HSC guidance, participants conduct action research activities and create final products such as podcasts, flyers, short films, workshops, and games. The trajectory culminates with a celebratory presentation.
