After months of dedicated work, a group of diverse civil society members from Lebanon presented their results from the participatory action research conducted in Al Fakiha under the Civic Horizons program.
Throughout the research process, the group engaged with various stakeholders in Al Fakiha to better understand the community's needs and aspirations. From conducting interviews and focus groups to organizing neighbourhood walks and photovoice (a participatory method where participants use photography to document and share their perspectives), they ensured that all community voices were heard.
The group, composed of 20 members from diverse organizations including youth-led peace and conflict transformation organizations, scouts, women's organizations, and community leaders, focused their research on understanding the dynamics of safe and inclusive spaces within the community. By asking community members about experiences that made them feel safe and heard, or unsafe and unheard, they delved into the social dynamics of Al-Fakiha.
Their findings were presented at a special cultural event organized by Peace of Art's NGO in collaboration with Human Security Collective. This event provided a platform to unveil the research results and engage in meaningful discussions about the importance of safe spaces in the area. Attendees included community leaders, representatives from local authorities, the security sector, and the education sector, as well as local civil society organizations, youth, women, and other community members.
